Founded by Shu-Jen Lin, in the heart of Orange County, California, Taccia®
is a design house that crafts haut fashion, in the form of
wearable and
comfortable
writing instruments. With decades of experience as a modéliste,
and growing up in her family pen business, Shu-Jen decided to invest,
build, and partner with a renowned pen manufacturing facility to promote
her own line of pens. Shocked by the poorly designed, shoddily-built,
budget pens available on the market today, and overpriced offerings
of the luxury labels, Ms. Lin decided to make use of her expertise,
creating her own hallmark to combine design, luxury, and value into
one writing instrument brand.
Though Taccia® is a "young Turk" within the somewhat
close society of pen manufacturers, Lin and her staff collectively
have many years of experience as a chirographics instruments OEM for
many well-known brands. Backed by decades of family business tradition,
and inspired by many cultures, including traditional and modern American
customs, and millennia-old Asian and European mythoi, Taccia®
offerings are of the highest quality.
Taccia’s business of pen design and crafting, and service is
built on a foundation of three pillars: Design,
Luxury, and Value.
Ms. Lin herself put her vision and goals thusly:
Luxury—One of
the most important inventions in the history of mankind is the
pen. Without writing there would be no history for us to read
and learn from. We truly believe that it is necessary for one
to invest in such a personal and intimate communication tool to
express themselves, and we believe that the Taccia® line of
fountain pens, roller ball pens, and ballpoint pens has the perfect
pen for you. We build our products to show that whether it be
a comfortable keyboard or a smooth fountain pen, all forms of
communication are important and deserve to be treasured.
We only use the highest quality German
Iridium-tipped nibs and refills, and the most sparkling imported
Italian resin in our pens. All of our pens are rigorously tested
at several points throughout manufacture and before sale to ensure
a luxury product suitable for your hand. It is our goal to ensure
your satisfaction with each pen stroke, and we provide the instrument
suitable enough for your pocket, purse, desk, and hand.
We strongly believe in treating each
customer with a personal respect and dignity, and to not be a
faceless design house. Our after-sales service is unequalled in
this age of mass-consumerism.
Design—Every
Taccia® pen is individually designed and crafted from end
to end, and each collection represents a different style and preference.
Each pen starts out with me sketching out the basic elements of
the pen. After the sketches are completed, I work closely with
my manufacturing team to ensure that the design gets implemented
with the goals I’ve had in mind. With the excellent experience
my engineers and artisans, I continually get feedback with suggestions
of modifications to make the pen more durable, better balanced,
and even better looking, so every pen goes through weeks and months
of daily discussions to reach the last design.
Not every Taccia® pen I sketch
makes it to the end product. We’ve tested many unique pen
styles that just don’t make it to the final cut. So as you
can see, we take everything into consideration when making a pen—its
looks, the weight, its ease of use, the value it entails, and
much more.
Value—At
the end of the day, what really defines a Taccia® product
is our commitment to value. When I was first looking for a good
pen to use, I was surprised that most quality fountain pens cost
a fortune! Even now, there are many sub-$100 fountain pens, but
their quality and design are second-rate. And even still, I hear
many of my friends complaining that their expensive pens break
frequently. Our pens are rigorously tested and are at least as
well-made as many pens costing 3 or 4 times as much!
Because Taccia® is the manufacturer,
I can pass down significant value to the consumer. That’s
why our pens truly do compare with high-end offerings –
everything about them is the same, but we’ve cut out the
distributor and middlemen.
The Taccia Guarantee
To guarantee each Taccia pen’s
value and to stand behind our products, we offer a Lifetime Mechanical
Guarantee for every Taccia product against defective parts.
Taccia® pens are currently available across
the globe, at luxury boutiques in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Paris,
Tokyo, Toronto, and many more international capitals of style and
commerce. Their scriveners’ tools have been featured in numerous
fashion, collectables, and writing instruments publications. Ms. Lin
and her company are the recipients of numerous certificates and statements
of recognition, as producers of some of the best value pens available
anywhere. Further, Taccia® has been the focus of articles in all
major writing instruments journals, and have been featured in pen
encyclopedias and references books published on every continent. Some
collections which have garnered such attention and praise are the
Andante,
and the well-known and oft-requested Continental
and Ta-Ke.
Currently the company’s best seller,
the splendorous Mother
of Pearl Collection can be found in myriad boutiques and
catalogues worldwide. Made by hand, overlaying each individual piece
of pearl and abalone, harvested from the South Pacific, it is an utterly
beautiful writing instrument, significant not only in weight and girth,
but also in balance, and comfort and ease of writing. With such a
considerable amount of hand labor going into each pen, only Taccia®
can list each pen at the nominal price of $325 for 18k Fountain, and
$195 for Rollerball.
Though remarkably self-effacing, and delightfully
lacking in the prideful rodomontade so common in today’s successful
entrepreneurs, Shu-Jen Lin has established what all true pen fanciers
and collectors trust will be an enduring dynasty of design and craft
of the purest and fairest sort. With both a young son and daughter
accompanying her to shows and other industry events, it may be more
than a mere hope that Taccia® is indeed a latter-day revival of
the sedulous, artistic vision that gave us such names as Georg
Jensen, Hilditch & Key, and Coty, in other
artistic and fashion arenas.
