His personality combined with tremendous capacity for work,
profound knowledge of his craft and persistence in solving certain
technical problems. [Perchin] was highly esteemed by the House and
enjoyed a rare authority over his apprentices. Over a relatively
short period of time he made a considerable fortune, but had no
opportunity to enjoy it, because he died in a lunatic asylum in
1903.
In the 1880s, the Neo-Renaissance genre of styles became
popular in Europe, from Neo-Rococo, Japonisme, and Art Nouveau to
Neo-Classical, and Empire, as seen in the jewelry of Alphonse Fouquet,
Émile Froment-Meurice, and others of this period. Soon after
they made their appearance in trend-setting Paris, they were adopted
and adapted by the young master. As opposed to the large majority
of Fabergé's workmasters who were of Finnish origin, Perchin
came of Russian peasant stock, and was apparently self-taught. Trained
in the workshop of Erik Kollin, Fabergé's first head workmaster,
he rapidly acquired technical expertise, especially in translucent
enamels.
In 1995, The Renaissance Pen Company acquired the registered
trademark name of Michel Perchin, and began producing fine
writing instruments and other one-of-a-kind creations. An artist and
entrepreneur, the founder of Renaissance began to create spectacular
pieces which have gained international distinction and panache over
the past ten-plus years. In 2004, a group inspired by the now well-known
and illustrious works acquired a majority interest. This group, headed
by Abel Bullock, current President of Michel Perchin, is focused on
creating these most exquisite-possible pens, and expanding operations
into other products and one-of-a-kind pieces.
First of these creations was the now, famous blue and gold ribbed
writing instrument inspired by the universally recognised Fabergé
blue & gold-ribbed Russian Imperial Egg. Many experts believe
that this was created before 1899; however, its exact date of development,
and intended recipient are still disputed amongst Fabergé experts.
Inspiration and esteem for these world-renowned chirographic treasures
derives from the legendary artist and craftsman himself, namesake
and inspiration of Michel Perchin.
Extending the legacy, and representative of the combination of current
creativity, and the genius of the originator, three new collections
reaffirm Michel Perchin's position as exemplaire de pont between 21st
and 19th centuries' artistic expression. With hand-applied enamel
on the crown, black acrylic covering barrel & cap, and adorned by
the Italian engraver's art, the Executive
Collection is unique and elegant, crafted in Italy, all metal
components of .925 sterling. Fountain, rollerball, and ballpoint pens
are all available in six rich colours: red, blue, champagne, & pink
with 22kt yellow gold plate trim; and yellow and blue in rhodium trim.
Peter Carl Fabergé's Blue Serpent Clock Egg serves as inspiration
for the extraordinary MP
5 Limited Edition. Sculpted from .925 sterling, the barrel
and all metal parts are available in three lustrous colours: red enamel
with jet black acrylic, and blue enamel with mystic blue acrylic,
both trimmed in 22kt yellow gold; and one, coronation yellow enamel,
also with black acrylic, trimmed in rhodium. Sharing inspirational
heritage with the MP 5 collection, the Russian
Eagle Limited Edition captures the dazzling starbursts-with-trellises
pattern of the Russian Imperial Coronation Egg of 1897, and is enhanced
with the bold black enameled Imperial Eagle. Meticulously hand-crafted
from a solid .925 sterling rod, and engraved to the highest old-world
goldsmith standards, multiple layers of translucent enamel are hard
fired to the guilloched pattern. These exquisite pieces are merely
a foretaste of future offerings from Michel Perchin.
